For Collective Concept at ICFF, Allied Maker will collaborate with six artisans who are masters in their material to each construct a large totem luminaire.
Totems are historically sacred objects serving as an emblem for a tribe. The goal of our presentation will be to create emblems to makers; and to honor the exquisite connection between makers and materials. Metal, Glass, Stone, Wood, Ceramic, and Fabric... Each tribe will be presented side by side. With a minimum height of 90" tall, the installation will be large in scale with the intent of making the object larger than life to the viewer.
The concept aligns with the mission statement that started and fuels Allied Maker; to craft products in the USA from outstanding natural materials in collaboration with passionate makers. Inspiration for new work is often informed by the material used and the artistry to create the form. The totems will symbolize our studio’s inspirations and our commitment to supporting and elevating American craftsmanship.
